The Elephant, by Peter Carnavas

Our Review:
This is one very special little book.
It is a story of a small family coming to terms with a tragedy through love, friendship and memory. Olive lives with her Grandad and her father who has a sadness so big that Olive imagines it as a very large grey elephant following him around. With the help of her best friend, Arthur, and her Grandad, Olive develops a plan to rid her dad of the sadness that follows him everywhere. This story is a rare and unique insight into emotions and issues of loss, grief and despair written in a way that young readers will warm to and understand. It is a gentle tale with inspiring examples of kindness and empathy and with beautiful and delicate illustrations throughout, that truly help the reader connect with the story. I cried and laughed and felt so connected and touched by every word in this beautifully written story. This is a must read. I highly recommend it for any age. It will stay with me for a very long time.
This is a junior fiction novel for readers aged 6 and up (to adults!)
