National Bookshop Day @ Great Escape Books
Saturday August 11th from 1.00pm-4.00pm

Saturday 11 August is National Bookshop Day and to celebrate Great Escape Books in Aireys Inlet is hosting a very special literary celebration for the whole community. Join us from 1pm for an afternoon of readings and discussions some of the surf coast area’s great writing talent.

Whether you’re a poet, playwright, novelist, essayist or any other writer in the Surf Coast, Great Escape Books is giving you the opportunity to read from your work and chat with booklovers – if you wish, you can also sell your work on the day.

Each writer to be allocated a 15-minute slot, in the style of an open mic music or poetry event. It’s a special event in honour of National Bookshop Day to celebrate the incredible writing talent we have the area. It doesn’t matter if you’re published, self-published or unpublished, this event offers you an opportunity to share your writing with an audience. It’s a great opportunity for readers to get to know some of the many great writers we have and a wonderful experience for up and coming writers to showcase their work in front of an appreciative audience.

Local success story Favel Parrett, whose debut novel Past the Shallows was shortlisted for the prestigious Miles Franklin Award this year, will be our guest ‘roving writer in residence’ throughout the day. She’ll be on hand to chat to readers about her work as well as to give budding writers some tips and advice as they embark on their own writing journeys. And she’ll definitely sign copies of her book too. There’ll also be plenty of fun for the whole family with spot prizes compliments of Hachette Publishing, lucky dips and a chance to write your favourite book up on the Great Escape Books window.

Not to be missed! At 2pm: Favel and Nicole will be in-conversation chatting about Favel’s amazing journey with her award winning debut novel Past The Shallows. Favel will reveal some great ‘hot tips’ for breaking into the world of writing and publishing.

So come and celebrate writing and reading this National Bookshop Day at Great Escape Books. This is a free event.
