A People’s History of Heaven by Mathangi Subramnian- Our Review
Heaven is a slum in Bangalore, India and is home to five feisty, glorious teenage girls who love every piece of it. Under threat from the bulldozers of developers, along with their mothers and grandmothers they barricade and picket the outskirts, knowing that if it is knocked down they will have nowhere to call home.
But this is just the backdrop to the story, the real story is the unconditional love and friendship between the girls and their remarkable teacher, who is their biggest supporter and ally.
There are darker moments as the abject poverty and reality of what may be their future intrude, but Heaven is full of colour, laughter and light. Be swept away with this glorious tale of unity and joy.
