All The Broken Places: The Sequel to The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne – Our Review

Our Review…

This sequel to The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas is told by Gretel the sister to the boy who went under the fence to his fate.

Exiled with her mother, a desperate woman trying to distance herself from anything German and drinking to excess, hopeful of a man who would save them. Mother and daughter are lured into traps by men wishing to punish them and they batter the storms of hate that is levelled at anything German.

Now in her nineties and living in London for decades she encounters a dilemma that could save a young family at the cost of exposure to her past and maybe atonement. There are encounters over the years as former Nazis recognise each other as the past comes rolling back. Historical grief, guilt and the horror of the past are brought to life by this superb storyteller.

Truly enjoyed this as much as the first book.
