Animal by Lisa Taddeo – Our Review
‘Three Women’ by Lisa Taddeo was one of my favourite non-fiction reads in 2019, so I had high hopes for her latest book ‘Animal’, and it truly did not disappoint.
‘Animal’ is a dark, disturbing and unforgettable literary fiction that follows the life of Joan. Narrated in the third person, we come to know that Joan is a fascinating woman in her late thirties and on opening the first page we are abruptly confronted to read she has just had a man kill himself in front of her.
After this traumatic event, we run with Joan to California where she meets Alice who helps her make sense of her past and uncover the trauma of her childhood.
‘Animal’ is a violent, rage filled novel that is masterfully crafted, it is all encompassing and is a remarkable and thrilling read that unravels right until the very last page. Brilliant!
