Crows Nest: The First Dana Gibson Mystery by Nikki Mottram – Our Review
Dana Gibson is running away from her distant marriage and needs time to think, so she’s taking a temporary transfer from Sydney in her career as a child protection worker to the small town of Toowoomba.
The nature of the job ensures Dana hits the ground running, with her first stop being to assess the family situation of a local woman Sandra Kirby and her family, in the small town of nearby Crows Nest.
But she fails to build rapport with not only Sandra but also with her superior and the local law enforcement, which the child protection team work alongside closely. Her new job is not off to a good start and Dana wonders whether she is just not cut out for small country town life.
Shockingly, only a short time later Sandra and her best friend are found shot dead and the mystery surrounding their deaths is terrifying. Dana just can’t let it go and finds herself fighting for the truth, and for the women and families that are caught up in the destruction. But people really just want this city girl to mind her own business and keep quiet.
Filled with twists and turns, this is a truly compelling read. It is engaging, thrilling and a fabulous crime fiction read with many layers. The only disappointment is that we have to wait for the promised sequel to be released to get to know the characters more and enjoy more of Nikki Mottram’s brilliant storytelling.
