I Am Out With Lanterns by Emily Gale- Our Review

Our Review…

“I am out with lanterns” is from an Emily Dickinson quote and is the inspiration for this wonderful book.
Year 10 best friends and neighbours Wren and Milo, along with four other teenage characters, tell a story mixed with friendship, family, crushes, bitter battles, hope and the power of a hand drawn portrait. I particularly loved the character of Milo, who is a boy with autism. With the great storytelling, beautiful writing and quite a bit of humour and wit, the reader gets to know the eclectic mix of all the teenage characters more intimately and their stories intertwine in a fast paced read and I found I was eagerly anticipating the turning of each page.
I became so attached to the characters in this captivating book. They all felt so real and relatable. I laughed, I cried and I felt caught up in their conflict and personal journeys.
This is a thought provoking and captivating story bringing to light many teenage issues apparent in society today. Highly recommended.
