My Tidda, My Sister by Marlee Silva – Our Review
ABIA Longlist 2021 – General Non-Fiction Book of the Year
‘My Tidda, My Sister’ by Marlee Silva is a must read! It is a beautiful book, a hardcover filled with the most breathtaking Indigenous illustrations by Rachael Sarra throughout.
The author Marlee Silva is a proud Gamilaroi and Dunghutti woman who in 2018 launched an Instagram page called ‘Tiddas 4 Tiddas’ dedicated to celebrating Indigenous girls and women.
The book was born out of the success of this Instagram page, and is an incredible collection of stories from Australia’s first women. Overflowing with magnificently crafted stories of experience and community as well as the commonplace discrimination and hardship that are a stark reality for these incredible women.
“Tidda means sister and tiddas are stronger together”… and this is the perfect book to gift far and wide.
