2022 ABIA Longlisted- It Wasn’t Meant to Be Like This by Lisa Wilkinson (Hardback) – Our Review

Our Review…

‘It Wasn’t Meant to be This Way’ by Lisa Wilkinson is a magnificent insight into the personal life of one of Australia’s most respected female TV presenters and journalists.

Having watched Lisa Wilkinson on the screen, I certainly had a concept of who I thought she was, but reading her memoir made me realise just how much more their was to know.

At just 21 years of age, Lisa became the editor of the much-loved teen magazine ‘Dolly’, and after tripling the readership in a short period of time she was head-hunted by Kerry Parker himself to take over ‘Cleo’ magazine and then later ‘The Australian Women’s Weekly’.

A mother to three, she juggled motherhood with an illustrious public career and paved a way for women to be recognised, acknowledged and respected in a male industry.

Her memoir is bold, vulnerable and entirely captivating as we come to know the many sides of Lisa and all that she has achieved. A wonderful book about family, success, humility and cheering on other women to do the same, as they follow in our footsteps.
