Renowned for her incredible debut novel The Dry, and acclaimed follow up novels including The Lost Man and The Survivors, Jane Harper is a pioneer of the Australian crime genre.

Five years after her son Sam walked out on his 21st birthday and never came home, Ro returns to their remote town to mark the anniversary of his disappearance. A town that barely resembles what once was a thriving community. The promised prosperity of a big mining company now left with only dust, guilt and regret. Although it’s been five years, Ro hasn’t given up hope that someone in this town must know something about Sam’s disappearance.

Last One Out, is a slower paced mystery but Harper’s incredible prose brings the landscape to life and makes you feel like you are right there, immersed in the setting. It is a powerful exploration of family, loss and community, and a confronting insight into the destruction of rural towns by mining corporations – the devastation they leave not only the landscape but the people and communities.
