On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong – Our Review
‘On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous’ is breathtaking, a book that left me with a sense of awe and wonder. Wow!
Voung has the most magnificent style of writing, this book is poetic and graceful yet gritty and raw.
Written by Little Dog the speaker, he writes this letter to his mother who cannot read, a letter that is a brutally honest account of his life so far.
Rooted in Vietnamese culture, Little Dog reflects on sexuality, masculinity, race and class, the power exists in the simple telling of his own story.
The love and bond between this man and the single Mum who raised him is palpable, and we are left with all the feels- wholeheartedly grateful to have experienced this little novel.
