Runt by Craig Silvey (Hardback): Winner of the Indie Book Awards 2023 Book of the Year

Our Review…

A gorgeous tale of resilience and the enduring love between a girl Annie and her adopted dog Runt. When the chips are down, you can count Annie and Runt and on their unbreakable bond!

Annie sets out to save the family farm, which has suffered under a crippling drought and the evil water-grabbing schemes of Earl Robert-Barron (love the name),with the help of Runt the fastest, most talented dog in the world. Annie needs to enter him in the world famous London agility course. But there’s a catch…Runt can only perform his dog tricks if no-one is watching. So how can Annie prove how good he is, win the pot of gold and save the farm from ruin?

Runt is a must-read novel, in the vein of a classic like Matilda by Roald Dahl – populated with despicable do-daring villains, a galloping plot and lots of good humour. As well as weaving in timely themes on drought and sustainability, Silvey also touches on acceptance and not trying to change people (or dogs) and following your dreams. We promise both you and your children will adore it!
