Sing Unburied Sing by Jesmyn Ward

Our Review: A hauntingly beautiful novel of the complicated ties of love and race. Set amongst the heat of the Mississippi, ‘Sing Unburied Sing’ will captivate and challenge you.
This is the ultimate roadtrip novel…a young boy who will do anything to protect his sister, a young black mother, living on the brink driving towards what she hopes is a new future with her white husband- due to be released from the bruising hell of ‘Parchman’.

Jesmyn Ward, one of the young emerging great writers from the US, writes with profound humanity and insight, ‘singing’ a bleak picture of a nation and its people. It is lyrical and poetic, and reveals amidst the deepest heart of darkness, ultimately there is hope and there is love. This is one of my current favorite novels, an amazing read.
