The Beekeeper of Aleppo by Christy Lefteri – Our Review
Haunting, beautiful, heartbreaking.
We meet Nuri, a decent man in love with his bees, his family and his beloved city, Aleppo.
Despite the escalating violence he can still see the beauty in what was a vibrant colourful city.
Nuri is reluctant to give it all up and almost leaves it too late to flee.
This is the story of how he and his now blinded wife Afra – an artist make their way across the landbridge of the European continent to safety in England.
The writing is incandescently beautiful, as we see the world through Nuri’s gentle eyes. He wants to still believe that good will triumph, that decency will win out and because of his generous nature, we come along for the journey.
The Beekeeper of Aleppo is a novel that will stay gently with you for a very long time. Highly recommended.
