The Boy from the Mish by Gary Lonesborough – Our Review
The Boy From the Mish by Gary Lonesborough is a must read YA, featuring queer teen Jackson growing up in an Indigenous community.
Every year Jackson’s Aunty and his little cousins come to visit and camp out in their little house with Jackson and his Mum over Christmas. This year they bring with them the mysterious Tomas, a teen with a troubled past who has just been released from juvie into the care of Jackson’s Aunty.
As the two boys share a room away from the younger cousins, they begin to ley their guard down around each other and to explore their sexuality, indigenous culture and practices and where they fit in at all.
A great book that broadens representation, is deadly funny and a charming story about growing up and how to truly be yourself.
