The Edge of Thirteen by Nova Weetman – Our Review
Clem Timmins has missed her friends over the super long summer holidays, but is super excited to catch up with everyone now school is back, albeit feeling a bit nervous about heading into Year 8.
At thirteen, Clem is all about spending time with her best friends. But when school goes back, she can barely recognise Bridge who is now boy obsessed and Ellie now wears a bra! Clem can’t help but feel left behind.
On school camp, Clem kisses Tom and is confused about whether they are a real-life couple now, is she even ready for a boyfriend? The once easy friendship between the girls now feel awkward and when Bridge crosses the line, Clem has to find the courage to stand up to her friend.
This is a fantastic book for middle fiction readers, it is deeply relatable and a clever exploration of fitting in and growing up and all the emotions that you must step through along the way.
