The Grand Tour by Olivia Wearne – Our Review
The Grand Tour by Olivia Wearne is a light hearted adventure filled with the shenanigans of two retired women as they travel throughout Australia in their Winnebago.
Quirky, stubborn and complete opposites, Angela and Ruby develop a close but unlikely bond after the death of Angela’s husband.
Along the way we meet Ruby’s daughter and granddaughter who she has been estranged from for a really long time and we are enveloped in the at times sad back story that has marked their difficult relationship.
While Bernard, Angela’s brother is having his own mid life crisis as he is thrust into the lime light for all the wrong reasons.
Together the book is a mish mash of fascinating characters, all with their own stories to tell. It is funny, messy and a wonderful portrayal of the complicated family relationships and the love that holds them precariously together.
Ruby and Angela might be retired but they are still as fiery and witty as in their younger years, which makes for a magnificent fun read.
