The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang – Our Review

Our Review….

From the bestselling author of Yellowface and Babel, jump into the story that started it all, R.F.Kuang’s debut novel The Poppy War.

Orphaned to a callous family of opium dealers, Rin is determined to find herself a better future and earns her way into an illustrious and elite military school. Competing against her privileged and discriminatory classmates, Rin inadvertently discovers she has the unique ability to tap into an ancient and dangerous power. With the Empire on the brink of war, Rin must depend on her fellow classmates and erratic new master to harness her new ability and stay alive.

Inspired by 20th century Chinese history, Kuang creates an immersive and detailed fantasy world, where there is no such thing as an easy solution. Her characters are incredibly well developed and draw you into the story. An action packed ride full of intense battles, revenge and destiny.

The thrilling start to the Poppy War trilogy and a roller coaster of emotions I absolutely loved this book.
