The Scholar by Dervla McTiernan – Our Review

The 2020 ABIA Longlist- General Fiction Book of the Year

Our Review: After the very successful ‘The Ruin’, our new favourite detective Cormac Reilly is back with another
thrilling and complicated case.
This time it is very close to home, as his partner Corrie is directly involved, and he struggles to stay impartial and worries it is affecting his judgement and his famous
gut feelings.
Bio Pharmaceuticals is a major sponsor in the University’s research programs and when
a student is found dead by Corrie in the grounds after dark in her area, things get complicated.
Once again very Irish and reads like a good BBC crime thriller. Too much power and too many dead
ends make this a struggle and Cormac has to confront some home truths. Crime fiction at it’s
best. Loved it.
Author Information: Dervla McTiernan was born in County Cork, Ireland to a family of seven. She now lives in Perth with her husband and two children.
