Saturday October 23rd 2010: The Robert Ingpen Book Launch of The Secret Garden at Great Escape Books.

An inspiring evening was had in a booked out event with Robert Ingpen in conversation about the art of illustration. Recipient of the Hans Christian Award for Illustration, all of the audience was familiar with Robert’s work, with many people avid followers and collectors of his both his art and his books.

What was so unique about the event was the insight into preparation of the illustration from storyboards to the final pieces.  Robert’s books are prized for the fine detail that goes into every piece. If you own one of his books you will be sure to know that they are scientifically accurate right down to the clothes, tools and plants that would have appeared in the time period he is illustrating.

It was a magical evening and if you ahve not yet seen Roberts books or art, drop Great Escape Books as we are priviledged to have several pieces hanging on the walls of the bookshop and all of Roberts books are personally signed at Great Escape Books.

This much loved 1911 classic, the unabridged version of The Secret Garden by Francis Hodgson Burnett has been vividly bought to life by the magnificent hand-drawn illustrations of Robert Ingpen.
