2022 ABIA Longlisted- The Way It Is Now by Garry Disher – Our Review

Our Review…

Twenty years ago, in a seaside town on the Mornington Peninsula, Charlie and his brother Liam are helping their mother extricate a problem border from her home. When suddenly their Mum disappears, all suspicion falls on their father.

Yet with no body ever recovered, their belief that their beloved mother has been murdered can never truly be realised.

Now, two decades later, Charlie is back in the same coastal hometown, this time he is feeling sad and sorry for himself, on forced leave from his job as a cop. A divorcee with an adult daughter, everything is a mess for Charlie. He is a burnt-out shambles and is becoming increasingly confronted with the misogyny that surrounds him in his career, when skeletal remains are uncovered nearby.

Can the truth finally be uncovered?

A thrilling crime fiction, that is filled with brilliant characters and deep and profound themes that make for a great read.
